Super Easy WordPress Installation With Fantastico
When it comes to setting up a new installation of WordPress, there isn’t an easier or quicker way to do it then to use Fantastico. If your web host currently uses cPanel there is a pretty good chance that Fantastico is going to be available to you.
If you are using a web host such as HostGator you can find the link to Fantastico under the Software/Services section inside of cPanel.
After clicking on the link you will be taken to the main page for Fantastico and provided a list of currently setup software/scripts as well as a navigation menu. From the navigation menu, select WordPress listed under the Blogs section.
Next, you will see a list of WordPress installations if they already exist as well as a short bio about WordPress and a link to create a new installation. Click the New Installation link to continue forward. You will then be taken to the actual page where we select the domain name that we want our WordPress blog to be installed to as well as the administrator login information and the title and description of the blog.
Lets go through the above image to ensure that you understand what you are doing.
Domain and installation directory options
The first menu you will see is a dropdown of domains that are listed on your hosting account should you have more then one domain. Choose the domain that you want the WordPress blog to be installed to. The next option is where to install the WordPress blog in the domain’s directories.
Depending upon how you want your site setup will determine whether or not you enter any information into this field. If you want visitors to show up to your blog when they visit your domain name ( http://wpthemesupport.com ) you don’t need to enter anything into the input field. However, if you already have a site setup under your domain name and would like the blog to show up inside of a subdirectory ( http://wpthemesupport.com/blog ) then you would enter the word blog into the input field.
Make sure that you don’t add any forward or trailing slashes to either the front or back of the name of the subdirectory and also be sure that the subdirectory isn’t already created. You can choose any name that you like for the subdirectory, I just used blog as an example.
Administrator login information
The next part is where we will create the Administrator username and password that will allow us to log into the blog. Make sure to enter a strong username and password that nobody else but you knows, after all this is your blog and nobody likes getting hacked.
General site configuration
The last area allows you to enter in a nickname for yourself, your email, the name of the site and the description of the site.
Depending upon the theme that you choose, posts made may or may not display the author’s name. If the theme does display the author’s name, the name that you enter into here is what would be displayed on the theme. The email address that you enter is what will be used to send updates about the blog itself to such as notices about comments needing moderation.
The last 2 input fields are set for the name of the site ( My Personal Blog, WPThemeSupport ) or any other variations and the description for the blog. A theme may or may not show the description but it is always a good idea to fill it in anyways as it can provide potential information to search engines or visitors on what your site is about.
Installing WordPress
Once you have all this information entered, click the Install WordPress icon and let Fantastico do what it does best.
Assuming everything went ok, you will get a message stating the name of the database that is being created by Fantastico as well as the domain that you are installing the blog onto and whether or not into a subdirectory.
Click the Finish installation button to allow Fantastico to create the database and setup WordPress.
Success!
Well at least I would hope so.
If everything went as it should, you will be presented with a page giving you some information about the installation. If you see a page similar to the above image then you have successfully installed WordPress onto a domain. You can choose to have the details emailed to you in case you ever forget the Administrator login name and password.
As you can see, Fantastico makes is rediculously easy to install WordPress and it takes about 5 minutes or less to get WordPress installed and ready to go. If you have any questions or are having issues, feel free to leave a comment below!
